![]() ![]() ![]() My daughter liked the sautéed mushrooms which M Jean had suggested but I had to order the creamed spinach as the mushrooms did not thrill me. We asked for some salt and M Jean showed up with pink Himalayan salt. I thought my geriatric taste buds were failing me when I felt that the steaks were under-seasoned but my daughter agreed with me. The steaks came with (only) a few cloves of roasted garlic which did not complement the steaks. I am also doubtful of the $28 promotional price. I don’t think it will sell at its claimed full retail price of $58. The grain-fed meat was tender with lots of fatty tissue while the promotional steak was as described: chewy. Both had a nice charred crust from being cooked in the restaurant’s Pira charcoal ovens. Since both our mains were ribeyes, we were able to compare the two. Our request for extra bread resulted in two slices of their home made sour dough bread and a quenelle of whipped butter - a nice touch The sharpness of the horse radish in the lump crab came as a surprise though. Hmm.įor starters, we had the smoked burrata and lump crab toast. Outside had paper napkins while the ones inside were of cloth. Once we were seated inside, I immediately noticed that the place settings for indoor and outdoor tables are different. We retained our original order of the promotional ribeye which their website described as “chewy”. So off to the great indoors we sailed, after I had ordered a Brandt 365-day grain-fed ribeye ($65) to replace the original Wagyu rump cap. I then asked: will we be able to sit inside, in air conditioned comfort, if we ordered a main dish at regular prices? Good thing we were here for dinner at 6pm instead of midday for lunch. With a feeling of resignation, we allowed ourselves to be seated outside without any electrical fans and where safety glass panels around the perimeter blocked natural breezes. So we got to speak with French manager M Jean who repeated the same information. It’s clearly stated in our website, she explained. Oh, it’s our rule that patrons for their promotional steaks eat outdoors. Then, seating will be outside on the balcony, she said. Will we be having the steaks on promotion, asked the hostess. The online reviews were also quite good.Īnd thus we made reservations. Other items were also on promotional prices (see photo). So we heard about the steak promotion at Sear: $18 for Wagyu rump cap and $28 for USDA Prime ribeye.
